Poker After Dark: A Great Show

Poker is generally a game in wherein the players luck is stored in the cards he holds. Poker has been taken up by many for the sheer joy of it but it is also taken up by people who aim to strike it big through this game. Yes we are talking about professional poker players from all over the world.

To cater to these people a television series going by the name of Poker After Dark was launched on the 1st of January, 2007. Backed up by NBC and falling into the slot of late night programs this series was hosted by Shana Hiatt. This series is currently running in its 5th season and has captured the attention of viewers the world over. Though they were some problems that were experienced in the third season which resulted in a change in the anchoring slots the show continued on its way, when again the show required a change of host and currently Leean Tweeden is hosting this show. This show goes on air about six times a week. The last show is basically a small recap of what happened during the whole week. It generally gives an insight into the perspective of that week's games.

This show was put on air mainly to attract professional players from all over the world. It is basically the best playing against the best. This show is home to players like Vanessa Rousso, Gus Hansen and Phil Hellmuth, etc and a host of others. Though these people are professionals it doesn't state that the show is closed for the common man. This show is open for all. This show is basically based on a game of Texas Hold'em Up poker. A total of six players compete during the week for the top spot which will get them the prize money of $120,000. It is basically a show that hosts a game of poker lasting for a full week at the end of which the winner walks out with the prize money in hand. Players are selected on the basis of the number of tournaments they have won. There are sister tournaments staged and winners of these tournaments who are lucky get a free seat at the 'Poker After Dark'. You basically can get into the show by purchasing a seat by paying about 10,000 Full tilt poker points or by winning these smaller sister tournaments.

This show has been running for four seasons and is currently in its fifth season. It has proved to be a large platform for those who have it in them to become professional poker players. While you play in such an atmosphere you need to keep your cool and it is a common sight on the show to see tempers running wild and taunts being flung back and forth between the players.
